Overview

KitchenCost is a recipe cost calculator. This policy explains how the app handles your data.

Data Stored on Your Device

Your ingredient, menu, and price records are stored on the device you are using by default. If you choose to turn on cloud sync to work across devices, they are kept in sync storage as well. Limited usage and stability data may be processed separately, as described later in this policy. Key business data such as names, notes, prices, pack sizes, and selling prices is encrypted on your device before it is sent over a secure connection; some metadata needed to run sync and manage access, such as identifiers and change timestamps, is handled separately.

  • No account required to use the app on your device
  • Cloud sync is optional; turning it on also keeps these records in sync storage

Data Export

KitchenCost provides export/import via backup files in Settings. Backups are created on your device and shared only in the way you choose. You can use the app without an account; data stays local on your device by default, and sync runs only when you choose to enable it.

Usage Analytics & Error Tracking

We use PostHog Cloud (PostHog, Inc.) to collect pseudonymous usage data and error reports.

  • Data collected: App usage events, screen views, crashes/errors, device type, OS version, country/region, pseudonymous analytics identifier, ingredient names entered when creating an ingredient (whitespace normalized, emails masked, limited to 80 characters), quantity, and unit
  • Data NOT collected: Recipe names, prices, notes, purchase links, payment method details such as card numbers, precise location
  • PostHog Cloud is hosted in the US region
  • PostHog Privacy Policy: posthog.com/privacy

Subscription & Payments

Premium features are managed through RevenueCat.

  • Purchases are processed by Apple/Google; the app only verifies subscription status
  • Anonymous identifiers are used to manage subscription status
  • Payment information (card numbers, etc.) is not handled directly by the app

Data Deletion

You can delete data in-app (including permanently deleting from Trash) or uninstall the app to remove local data.
